LIVEBETTER: 2nd Annual Community Health Fair

On Saturday, LIVEBETTER team members hosted their 2nd annual community table at the Community Health Fair in New Haven, CT. The event took place at Goffe Street Park in New Haven and was organized by Yale’s Center for Clinical Investigation (YCCI). It was a beautiful sunny day, with food, music, (Zumba!), and a chance to learn more about heart health.

During the event, Jackie Sandoval, LIVEBETTER Research Coordinator, connected with dozens of people in the community, monitored their blood pressure, and cheered on people who were already taking good care of their health!

Mary Geda, LIVEBETTER Project Manager, handed out bottles of cold water and fresh apples, along with hand-outs on heart disease and what symptoms to look out for. Mary stated, “I love getting out in the community and helping people know when it’s important to see their heart doctor.”

Jackie also had a chance to talk with people from other research studies who work with diverse communities. A big take-away is the need to travel to assisted living and other places where older adults live, so that we can make it easier to share information on heart health with those who might need it most. Dr. Michael Nanna, Yale Principal Investigator, stated, “We love to share information at these events, and we learn a lot as well – there is so much opportunity to help older adults live better lives through improved heart health.”
